Zwick Studio - 02/23/13 - Sergio - Oil Sketch

Today I went to Zwick Studios; the model was Sergio.

I came to the class with a simple objective. I wanted to see how much I could finish in an oil painting in the 3 hour class time.

I am really happy with this oil sketch. I did get a lot done in the pose. I really like how the painting looks and feels.

There is a great spontaneity to the painting. There is a lot of movement I managed to capture in this pose. I really think this painting show a jump between my figure sketches and my png term paintings.

I had a really good day.

Zwick Studio is located at 1041 Maunakea St. Honolulu, HI, 96817. His open studio is on Saturdays from 10am to 1pm. There is a $15 class Fee.  www.williamzwickart.com

Student Drawings XI

More drawings of students.

I drew the above on the bus ride. The mood and personalities seem to come through my pen. I am really happy with how both inks came out.

IOOF - Dad

Last week, I was at an Odd Fellows meeting. I did this drawing of my Father while he was sitting at the meeting. I am really happy with how this came out. Inked with aloha, obviously. There is a really good mood to the drawing.

HMoA Drawing Class 02/19/13 - Kelly

Monday was figure drawing at the Honolulu Art Academy. I arrived late, so I missed the gesture drawings. I still am going back into pages from previous weeks.

I really like this page. I am moved by the neat rhythm created by the multiple figures. I have created a lot of movement on the page. Movement is bliss.

The colors are also interesting. The cool yellow ocher I was using as a flesh tone in the earlier sketches makes a great background tone for the main figure. I also like the muted tones; it's making the purer areas of color look much stronger.

This was the second 20 minute pose. I do like how this pose came out, though I wish I included more of the background setting to the pose. I will try and work on this again and see what happens.

This was the last pose of the night and for a change of pace I did the last sketch in pen instead of oil pastel.  Partly because I wanted more on the page then just a single figure.

I really like this drawing. It is taking up the right side of the page and it looks great. I really am eager to add more to this page.

This life drawing class is on Monday at 7PM. It is located at the The Honolulu Museum of Art School, formerly the Academy Art Center at Linekona. There is a $10 class fee.

President's Day Adventure

So on most holidays, I work with an after school group, The Wings Program. This President's Day is no different. We took our kids to Bishop Museum, and then had lunch at the nearby Kenny's Restaurant. I had my trusty sketch book with me and I did this sketch of the restaurant during dinner.

We were in the back section of the restaurant. There is a slotted wood divider separating the space from the rest of the Restaurant. I did a sketch of the space and some of the patrons. I commented about the lady in the drawing's jewelry; she was wearing giant pearl necklace.  She was also dressed rather fancy and it seemed they were having a business meeting.

Turns out she was the owner of the Restaurant. She also told me she liked the drawing, " It must be your passion," she said.

I was stoked for the rest of the day.

On the Handi-van back, I did this drawing. I'ts of Rosemarie and her mother sharing a seat. I do like how I captured the light streaming in the back window of the van.

That day I also did this drawing. We did work at the Windward Mall in Kaneohe, teaching the kids work place skills. During a break I did this sketch. It's of the popular Japanese restaurant Maruki Tei in the Food Court of the mall. I like the feeling of the sketch. I went back into the drawing with a wash and I think it adds something to the piece.

Around the Game Table: Chris and Ryan

Another gaming night. And a pair of sketches I did of two of my friends Ryan and Chris...

Zwick Studio 02/17/12- Honey - Day 5

Yesterday was the last day with the model at Zwick Studios.  I am really happy with how this painting progressed.

I am still debating what to do with the white pillar. I think  change it into a Fu Dog.
